Raw materials are shipped and received from both domestic and international markets that range from Kentucky limestone to Texas caustic soda and Brazilian pig iron.

Steel Dynamics, formerly Severstal Steel, manufactures steel in Columbus, bringing in pig iron and scrap steel to produce steel coils. Kinder Morgan operates the barge terminal on the east bank built to accommodate incoming pig iron and scrap for Steel Dynamics.

The east bank terminal also handles chemicals, petroleum coke, construction materials and other bulk commodities.
